So Where Is Waldo, Really?
Most of the times, where is Waldo tries to explain the meaning of the stereotypes – really. There are plays that are of silly search and at the end of the play turns into a game. This game explains a person’s reliance in all the different types of negative stereotypes. So here we go onto a task of finding Waldo in the game before it is too late. Waldo is a charter with shades and brownish hair, black like circle glasses, a reddish brown hat, and reddish white and horizontally striped shirt. As he tries to appear remarkably normal, this white man in his early twenties mixes well in his blue jeans and his jolly little grin.
Armed with Waldo characters and characteristics, first there is the take in a wild scene that is complete with random white and red striped towels, same shirt, which has vertical stripes, a Waldo-looking girl… and as a movement made through the image, right-to-left, in a remarkably tight search pattern and dismissal occurs. Moving quickly over places with no red and white images, moving slowly when there is something on the list, and then moving again as dismissal occurs as a decoy. Finally, when every hope seems lost, there is the seeing of the white and red striped shirt. From here, noting of the correct hair and glasses, the correct white colors and jeans bring the game to an end. BINGO! Somebody has gotten him. There is a need to search no more (Martin Hanford, p. 12).
As people are fond of saying, “the world is like where is Waldo?” — With an exception on crack! For sure, the where is Waldo images are a confusing mishmash all that meant to trick and confuse the mind. When somebody takes a moment and compares that wild array to the real world, it comes out extremely well as imagination. Imagine a scene where as somebody takes in while walking just across campus at a time for class change. What about trying to imagine of a commotion in a busy street in the city as somebody tries to find his/her ways through the crowd? How about, holding of a normal talk with people of the opposite sex? Almost all of these scenes are full of useful information that needs processing — ever terribly much more than a where is Waldo picture. If, by chance, a person was to be a fan at this game where there is the picking of the side of a person’s choice; would the person remember the colors of the shirt of the person sitting in front of him/her after the game? Would he/she remember all the concessions that availed themselves? Also, other remembrance may be all the different smells? What detailed information the person recalls? I imagine he/she would remember those things which he/she considers particularly valuable like the score of the game. The plays those were major? He/she may also remember some other precise appealing ends and odds. I imagine, no matter how magnanimous his/her memory is (besides those few species with highly crazy photographic memories), he/she would agree that he/she would not remember all the words to all cheers or how many times he/she jangled his/her keys at the start of the game (Martin Hanford, p. 15-20).
There is usually much to talk about that cannot be literally analyzed in every piece. Instead, a person can pay much attention to the pieces of information that he/she thinks are of immense importance. Most social psychologists explain this as a tendency of naming people as cognitive misers. We pay much attention to categories of importance that already contain attached information and scripts of behaviors. In so doing, we may know what to expect from things of such categories and how such things of these categories get a treat.
When all kidding set aside, it turns out that Waldo is certainly still around. He is almost in any social network. He is on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and even Bebo. He even went through the whole MySpace phase that many of us did. Somebody can think that the old buddy disappeared but, he still turns out always around when you just stop looking. When Waldo comes back, the person feels valued and cannot even wait to sharpen his visual detection skills once again and to see his adventures in Hollywood. This guy, Waldo actually led an adventurous life. One time he is in the arctic, the next time at a carnival, the zoo, the mall. He was a person of the people who craved the social life yet somehow he remained elusively hidden off somewhere in a corner somewhere. He knew where to go, he knew where he could go and act and he was a terrific blender in with the weights but where is he now truly? He seemed to vanish like Magic Eyes postcards, and then lately an urge to find him arises. Waldo still walks among all of us.
Instructions: -Remove second to last paragraph -make essay 700 words or less -opening paragraph, bring up who is waldo and what is it about him that is so desirable? its funny but also brings up a valid point (dont write it exactly like that obviously i want it well written) -then go into waldo is a maverick, does his own thing, chases his own dreams, he s authentically him and ironically we are all trying to copy an original -then into along the way we come across tons of imitators, trying to be waldo, someone htat they’re not, go into “armed with waldo….” till the end of that paragraph-symbolish***the fake people in the game armed with waldo characteristics are fakes and trying to act like waldo just like everyone else -the idea is that we all want to be individual, and ironically in the search the become individual many become the same then go into, when the true waldo is found it’s like striking gold because it is so hard to find someone who is who they are, and are not trying to become someone else then here’s the real world tie, how can we find waldo in our own lives? what is it that we re looking for, it goes much deeper than the jeans, the hat, the glasses the shirt, (ties into third paragraph) here would be a good opportunity to use a real world example then go into the closing, this only needs a handful of edits do the whole social networking thing, just cut out the whole “person feels valued sentence”, then go back into what you have about waldo leading his adventurous life then add something deep like “waldo is in each of us, the question is whether we let his out” -take out anything u think its unnecessary and will make this essay the apporpriate length 500-700 or 750 words. no more than 750 words please!
Like language, writing has been used to link not only the human community but also to relate life with the animate landscape. It is true that human connection to the other animals is made possible through sketches and outlines of these animals. Our ancestors drew animals in caves to foster their beliefs on their special connection to the wild animals. In the modern world images are also used to present unique representation of the animals around us. A child who has a special bond to his or her pet may make sketches of the animal to show love and compassion for the pet. Pictographic systems have been used for a long time to represent human connection to the surrounding. A good example of the use of images is seen in the old Egyptian hieroglyphics which appeared around 3000 B.C.
Pictures have been used for a long time to signify an idea. The pictographic systems that were found in China in the 15th century were later referred as ideograms because they represented a specific entity or phenomenon. The modern world is also using images to signify various issues and emotions. The example of Kevin Cater, a photojournalist who killed himself out of depression caused by a picture of a starving child he took in a desert full of vultures shows how pictures are representation of life situations and the emotions they elicit. This also demonstrates that images play a significant role in the way we experience life.
Pectoral systems make our sensory participation to gestures and voices to shift towards our own inner images. The use of images it the modern multimedia systems helps us make inner interpretation of life situations in relation to our own desires or beliefs. A person who views photography of a beautiful baby for example may desire to have his or her own child and the impact of the image may influence decision making about child bearing.
The use of text brings forth specific thoughts within the human mind. During the early periods, scribes in China and the Middle East used pictographic puns that made meaning when presented in a specific sequence. Representations of the pictographic puns are used in the modern day to explain geographic information. Phenomena such as earthquakes and volcanoes would be explained in pictures that demonstrate the successive activities to enhance the understanding of the viewer.
Images were used in ancient China to invoke different sounds. The images were called ideograms and they contributed to the different dialects of the Chinese language. The elite status of the scribes though inhibited the development in the phonetic script. This was so because the scribes did not want to develop innovations to the scripts that could promote literacy because they feared that their importance and status could be lessened. The use of text to promote literacy is important in modern learning institutions where young people are taught how to interpret text into verbal language hence enhance learning of new languages. Modern technology has employed combination of audio and text to promote learning. This is common in electronic dictionaries that read the pronunciation of text to the reader in different dialects.
With the advent of the alphabet ideographic and pictographic writing evolved and text was written on flat walls and clay tablets. Later, the relationship between pictorial signs and vocal gestures was established. The evolution of these ideas has been experienced in the modern new media that presents its text in computer screens through which outputs could be produced as print outs. The relationship between pictorial signs and vocal gestures in the new media has been established through combination of images and graphics in demonstrating issues such as the use of animation in weather focus to enhance the understanding of the viewer.
Images have been used to represent real life situations. For example a circle with an intersection of a tail was used in ancient times to represent a monkey. This is an example of the origin of the letters of the alphabet because each is symbolic of a specific message. Alphabetical letters have been used in the modern world to symbolize feelings which depends on the type of font structure used, (Partch, 64). The new media has applied the use of various font types to convey a variety of feelings. Cosmic Sans font type for example can be used to communicate elegance. In addition, the font type that is used in the bible is different from that in a magazine because the two media communicate different ideas and feelings.
The assertions of Socrates that the gods communicate to us through patterns of clouds, birds and waves show the appreciation of the role of images and sound in communication. In the new media sound and images are combined into multimedia to communicate ideas. An image of breaking glass without a combination of sound may not elicit the same response as when sound and image are combined. New media has evolved with technology and many images played in succession have been used to produce video in production of movies.
With the spread of alphabetic technology, language began to be distinct from the animate world. Scribes began to dialogue with the words they inscribed. When alphabetic literacy became a reality in Greece, the unseen powers and goods were no longer associated with man’s natural surrounding. In the early 4th Century, Plato began teaching people to write and the new technologies of reading began to spread to other parts of the world. The modern world has reached heights in the technology or reading and writing. Technology has made reading very easy because audio narrations of books are now available and many books have been converted into video formats to facilitate understanding.
Without writing systems, the diverse knowledge in the world about people, plants, animals and places would only be passed from one generation to the next through stories. Oral narratives were the commonest way of passing information in early days. Information passed orally would easily be forgotten or altered. The use of new media has enabled storage of information in disc drives for future access and reference. The use of multimedia in the modern world is congruent with the ancient vivid narration of stories with the use of gestures, facial expressions and demonstrations with the aim of promoting the understanding of the listeners.
The fact that Plato accorded more consideration to the oral expression in the poetic universe shows that some communication media are advantageous than others. Socrates used the alphabet to demonstrate the presence of attributes such as beauty, justice, courage, goodness and virtue. Modern media uses video to emphasize ideas that were originally presented in text formats. The use of animation in advertising is common in the modern world because of its advantage in enhancing meaning and the understanding of the viewer. In learning, some forms of media are preferred than others because of the impact they have in consolidating memory. For example animations can be used to describe a chemical reaction or an engineering procedure to ensure that the concepts are grasped.
In an attempt to understand further the concept of synaesthesia, scholars in the 20th century conducted research on the impact of the alphabet on the human beings. The studies showed that processes internal to the human mind are influenced by the alphabetic culture such as phonetic literacy and language. The impact of literacy is experienced when someone is reading or writing without conscious awareness of its influence on one’s thoughts. Human interaction with the new media results in a profound synaesthetic encounter. There is a link between seeing and hearing that aims at creating apprehension of phenomena. Modern media combine seeing and hearing through videos. These have a great impact on the viewers because different feelings are elicited by different images and sounds. For example a person who has experienced an explosion would later on react profoundly to loud banging sounds.
The eye and the ear converge into happenings that attract the attention of an individual and as a result cause different sensations. The new media combine elements such as color and size to attract the attention of viewers. Some images become dominant over others because there is emphasis on the concepts that are meant to be communicated. For instance, demonstration of a food product on television using vivid colors, images and sound would easily influence the viewer to have the desire of using the product.
The conjunction between hearing and seeing is experienced in phonetic reading where the mind tries to interpret the expressions of the reader and the audio message at the same time. The human mind interprets visual images through visual gaze that explores things to infer on their color, contour, distance and orientation so that meaning is made out of the situation. The use of principles and elements of design is common with the new media. Color is used to communicate different ideas since different colors are associated with different feelings depending on the cultural background of individuals. Feelings such as excitement and sadness are associated with various colors or images. For example white color is associated with mourning in China but with marriage and celebration in the African context.
Our ancestors believed that trees spoke to them and they used ideographic and pictographic writing to form a link to the animals that surrounded them. The modern world combines many forms of media and elements to express ideas, feelings and provide solutions to conflicts that result from human interaction with the environment. The civilized world rarely believes in communication that is mediated through trees or natural phenomena. Instead communication is enhanced through use of technical devices such as mobile phones and computers.
Alphabetic writing and reading was considered as a from of magic in the past where letters were given animate powers by scribes, but some communities such as the Spaniards did not believe in communication with sensuous forms and instead they believed in direct communication with one another hence they generated special signs and speech patterns to facilitate communication. The modern world has been globalized hence cultural beliefs have diminished and the use new media facilitates interaction and exchange of information in form of text, graphics, sound, video and animation which is made possible through online communities, (Reader, 202).
